Just a quick post to say I am still here!! The hair is growing and I am enjoying the new natural silvers. It has not been cut since the 17th of September and my plan is to continue to grow for a long bob style that can be pulled back into a ponytail again. I read that "long takes longer when you cut" so I am not going to have it cut for several more months. If it gets too annoying I may try for a bit of a trim but I hope I won't have to. It seems whenever I used to go for just a "trim" I would come out with what still felt like a "cut." And as I said before..."long takes longer when you cut". In the past month I have crossed paths with and commented to two different women on their natural silvers, both of whom had beautiful longer hair. They were so appreciative of the compliments and we chatted a while about the freedom of not coloring and of wearing it long. I was inspired by both women and felt very encouraged that I will really enjoy having long silver hair when it's here. So, on I shall grow!! May you have a merry Christmas and a very happy new year!!

The Growing Continues

Wow - you look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI just had my hair trimmed for the first time since I cut it all off in mid-August. My hairdresser cut *only* the way back - about an inch off since it was looking too much like a mullet. It looks much better now, and I can just let it keep growing. You don't seem to have the mullet problem, though! ;-)
Now you tell me -- it takes longer when you cut! That explains everything. I've been growing mine for 22 months -- ouch! And you can see how far I've gotten. I have had regular trims -- but I experienced the mullet issue Dierdre identified. In any event, you look great now, and I think you will look even more stunning with longer silver hair.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments and compliments!! It is hard not to go in for a shape up trim but I am steadfast in my growing out effort. I do have to get creative with the "products" and the blow dryer though!! When I don't, well...you can imagine.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! Yes, I'm still going strong on my silver journey. No caving to the color. I'm on the no cut bandwagon, too, with my last cut on Oct 26th. Though, I still have a few brown tips that I need snipped off. Also, I think I'll have to trim up the back if a mullet starts to take shape. You look great in your updated photo and I can see a lot of progress in growth. I'm excited, too, to have longer hair that I can pull back. You will look stunning with long silvers! ReplyDeleteI started growing mine from a pixie exactly 12 months ago. I now have a bob almost to the bottom of my neck I guess it is about the length of Donna's. I get mine trimmed, or shaped up about every 8 weeks. If I don't it just drives me nuts. I think there is a great difference in the rate at which hair grows between individuals. I wonder if the menopause makes a difference as I am not at that point yet.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I'm loving your hair, and I have a question. Early on you had a pixie, which is where I am now. I have decided to grow it out and am wondering if you got periodic trims, or did you just let it grow? I know my hairdresser is going to want to keep the back trimmed while the rest catches up, although I am still going to keep my hair layered when it is long. Keeping the back so short is going to make me feel like I'm not making any progress. What to do, what to do??? Any advice?

ReplyDeleteI have not had a cut or anything since September. I have trimmed off about 1/2 inch at the back bottom a couple of months ago but that is it. I am trying to let the layers catch up. It hasn't been too bad. Good luck with yours! And thanks for visiting!! I hope you get this.
Thanks for your quick reply, Susan! I am going to follow through with growing mine out the same way then. It just won't feel like "growing" if I'm constantly cutting my hair. I'll keep an eye out to see if I need a back trim after a bit, but I'm definitely not going to be continuously cutting during the growing out process.
